Job Description

The Enterprise Solution Delivery Office (ESDO), Portfolio Manager, will play a key leadership role as an advocate and partner with the business unit to develop an integrated view of the enterprise, defining and delivering strategic initiatives that enable the business to meet growth and operational efficiency objectives.

The Leader will have broad solution delivery experience and will apply wide-ranging skills in methodologies such as business transformation, process re-engineering, full project lifecycle management (including iterative, waterfall, and agile), financial management, and developing business strategy. The Leader will partner closely with the business unit to develop an integrated view of the enterprise; this work will link business and technology concepts improving the effectiveness of solutions delivered to the business. The Leader will be personally engaged in the efforts of their team, modeling NLG's Servant Leadership Tenets to successfully guide their teams.

Key Responsibilities

Advocate for the lines of business by ensuring their projects or proposals are well-formed and align with corporate strategic goals; function as an expert resource to the business to answer or facilitate responses to business related questions

Translate internal client business strategy into actionable value creating ideas and overseeing and monitoring delivery

Work with the business and project team members to assess current capabilities and identify high-level requirements

Monitor processes/methodology adherence to achieve team goals or objectives; determine and monitor process inefficiencies with resources and/or workflows and leads the process change to improve those efficiencies of workflows

Responsible for leading and mentoring resources, managing their performance and providing periodic feedback.Continuously monitor project burn rate against estimates

Ensure compliance to established ESDO processes; Perform analysis of non-compliances and identify improvement opportunities.Accountable for the performance of their team against ESDO project performance benchmarks.

Responsible for supply project performance data for ESDO aggregation and reporting to SLT, ESDO Leadership Team, and governance boards.

Collaborate with the ESDO Leadership Team to optimize resource planning, resource recruitment/staffing, and monitoring/reporting of both NLG staff and strategic vendor performance.

Lead and mentor other team members in the development of business analysis and project management deliverables, applying industry best practices/standards

Work with team to set annual performance objectives and actively communicate progress against those goals.Ensure every member of the team has a comprehensive individual development plan.

Responsible for measuring quality and timeliness across delivery of all projects in the practice

Job Requirements

Typically requires 12 plus years of relevant business work experience, with a specific emphasis on strategic solution delivery

Knowledge of operations functions within insurance or annuity business is an advantage but not required.

Experience managing large programs with budgets > $5 million is preferred

Typically requires an MBA degree in Finance or Operations with specialized training in the respective business area.A Bachelor's degree in finance or insurance/annuity operations is preferred

Certifications on Life Insurance, Annuities and Retirements from organizations widely recognized within the industry such as LOMA, ACU, AAPA are preferable

Advanced education and/or certification preferred (PMP, Agile Scrum Master, and or Business Analysis certification ideal)

Good understanding of industry trends and regulations to ensure accurate governance of projects and accurate financial reporting.

Able to represent the practice before executive management and report on financial health of the practice

Ability to clearly see the cost-benefit angle in every situation and take decisions based on sound financial judgement

Can view short and long term impacts of different options and is able to decide based on them

Clearly understands the nature of Business and IT projects and is able to forecast resource and financial trends based on prevailing environmental conditions

Sound understanding of Business/IT projects also helps in prioritizing certain initiatives over others

Strong ability to assess multiple impacts of a change and take remedial actions for the same

Ability to communicate change in a way that it minimizes anxiety in the team and any losses for the company/business unit
